Summary: Eurojust has published an official fraud alert about online scams in which criminals improperly use the agency’s name and logo to contact citizens and request money or personal data. The agency reminds the public that it never contacts people directly to request money transfers, credentials, identity documents, or authentication codes.
How the scam works: Scammers send emails, letters, or make phone calls pretending to represent Eurojust and claim that the victim is involved in an investigation or must pay taxes or legal fees. In many cases they ask for bank transfers or sensitive information. For example, a victim may receive an email with the agency’s logo stating that a “release fee” must be paid to recover blocked funds; once the payment is made, the scammers disappear.
